Why is our adoption fee what it is?
We don't only take in the cute & fuzzies. That is not speaking ill of any rescues, all reputable rescues save all they can and take care of all vetting, also. But HSLSC takes on some really hard cases and is ONLY able to do so because of our adoptions & donations we receive. Recently we have had some very high vet bills with Rocky, Abby, Trooper(aka Val), and Teddy. Please see our home page for more about them. We are so grateful for the donations we have received for all of their care so far, but will be falling short after Teddy's bill & Trooper still needing heart worm treatment.
But basically just for information sake, the least expensive so far is Trooper(aka Val) with his first bill being almost $800, and that's before his heart worm treatment which will put his care over $1000. We would love to get $300 adoption fee for him but that's hard to do. Our regular adoption fee is $200, we ask more for those we have more in & as always it's ALL tax deductible. We are a federal 501(c)3 non-profit so we take donations for our rescues.
So please, if you think that $150 or $200 is too high for an adoption fee, please do your homework & call other vets for the pricing of all we include, then add food & supplies too ;)! Thank you!!!!

Applications are reviewed & reference checks made, home checks, etc. application is NOT a guarantee of adoption as we may receive many applications on the same pet. Only approved applicants may adopt our rescues. It is easier & faster to adopt if you see one here you would like to meet just submit an application and after reviewing it we will meet you with the pet :)!
Please see our documents page tab or adoption app & contract tab for the adoption application and email it to us at adoptions@savelancasterscpets.org so we can check your references and have you pre-approved for your next family member!! We will then make arrangements to meet with you & with the pet(s) you are interested in.
Regular adoption fee for pups/dogs is $200 and $150 for cats/kittens, which, age appropriate, includes up to date vaccines & worming, spay/neuter & microchip with our vet & spay/neuter clinic scheduling. Also included: Free CD from Cesar Millan, 30 days FREE Pet health insurance (must respond to email ASAP) & a rebate for a FREE bottle of KIDS N PETS brand stain & odor remover! Adoption fees may vary depending on the pets history or circumstances. Some older pets may be less if we do not have to do much to get them adoptable. We are not in this to make money, any funds over what we may have in one dog/cat go towards other that we have more than the adoption fee in their care. We try to keep fees as low as possible, insure good homes that are able to care for the pets, as well as continue to provide for more pets. Please inquire about adoption fee if not stated. Some adoption fees may be from $50 to $300 depending on the pet.
Once in a while we will save a purebred pet & we will charge a higher adoption fee for them as the circumstances allow. This money that is "extra" is in no way "extra", believe us, we can show anyone how much it costs a "normal" pet to a hard luck case to be able to be ready for adoption. We don't have "extra" money, all that is collected/donated for HSLSC goes to the pets we save in one way or another. Be it food, vet care, supplies, etc.
Call your vet & check how much testing, vaccinating, deworming, & spay/neuter would cost just for starters. Let's not forget the matted dog that had added grooming, the sick pup that required another $100 in vet care, or the pup with a broken leg that cost another $400+ to have it taken care of after $85 in x-rays.....now is $150-$200 really too much for a vaccinated, dewormed, tested, microchipped, & altered pet????
