Foster home general guidelines
First of all, thank you so very much for offering to foster a rescue pet with us. We do not have a centralized building for sheltering so we depend solely on our foster homes to save as many pets as we can by getting them prepared to enter their forever loving homes!
There are guidelines we must follow to protect the pets, you, your family, your pets, and us in general. So please read through these guidelines carefully and sign below to acknowledge this, also, additional separate foster application may be required to be filled out to become our newest foster home.
1) Responsible applicant must be 21 years of age or older.
2) Foster home may ONLY foster for HSLSC, exceptions by approval only. Pets fostered for HSLSC are understood to belong to HSLSC and can be removed at any time by HSLSC with or without cause.
3) Foster pets need to be treated as any loving family member, BUT, must first be slowly introduced to your own pets, or kept away from your pets until vaccinated. Isolation is highly recommended for first day or so.
4) Applicant must be willing to have a representative from HSLSC make visits at any reasonable time to help you with the foster and see that proper guidelines are being followed.
5) Applicant and family and any other household members or visitors must NOT hold HSLSC liable for any actions the foster may have, or any damage the foster may cause. You must accept responsibility to act accordingly and report any negative actions by the foster pet to the HSLSC.
6) Applicant must agree to provide adequate food, water in bowl of sufficient size and depth to prevent over heating or freezing, shelter from the elements, flea & heart worm preventative, lots of love, & either leash walk or have pet fenced in a yard for exercise & bathroom breaks. We do not allow tethering of a foster animal. (emergency exceptions upon approval of HSLSC)
7) Applicant must agree to meet up with HSLSC to get vetting of foster done, report any problems, and allow contacts with potential adopters via email &/or phone.
8) Initial foster homes may only have one pet or litter at first. After being an experienced foster home we may allow more, depending on your housing ability.
Foster pets scheduled to go to another rescue within a few weeks may be held in specially approved homes up to 20 puppies/kittens at a time. No foster may have more than 20 puppies/kittens or 5 adults in foster care at one time, as this is not good for the person nor is it good for the foster pets. They need to be a part of a family and socialized, too many can make that impossible. Temporary housing for rescue groups may be an exception.
Once again, thank you so very much for considering helping a homeless pet find a way to a forever loving home! Please sign below that you have read and agree with these guidelines, as well as a foster application, to be considered for a foster home with HSLSC.
